Mali / Covid-19: EU and ECOWAS provide sanitation facilities to the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries

In response to the request made by the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries to the ECOWAS Commission, through the Regional Center for Animal Health (CRSA), for support for public hygiene equipment and consumables, the Center approached the EU Delegation in Mali and obtained an approval of FCFA 17,060,000 as emergency funds for the project to fight against transboundary animal diseases in West Africa (COMATAO / PREDIP) to support Mali.

Equipment and products to strengthen measures to fight the coronavirus pandemic, including infrared thermometers, hand washing kits, hydroalcoholic gels (hand sanitizers), bleach , handwashing soaps, masks and gloves were given to Mrs. Kane Rokia MAGUIRAGA, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries via videoconference Zoom on May 7, 2020, on behalf of the President of the ECOWAS Commission , son Excellence Monsieur J ean Cl aude KASSI BROU, by Mr. Sékou SANGARE, ECOWAS Commissioner in charge of Agriculture, Environment and Water Resources.

Commissioner Sangaré not being physically present today in Mali for the event , the official presentation of the products was made by Dr Vivian Ngoundu IWAR, Executive Director of CRSA based in Bamako. The main responsible for products and equipment, Mrs. MAGUIRAGA expressed the gratitude of the Malian government to the EU delegation and to the ECOWAS Commission for this support. “This support is very timely, because this step between the straight line of the President’s commitment to the fight against the coronavirus: each Malian, a mask,” she said. “I can assure you that these products will be of great benefit to my department in the fight against the pandemic,” she added. They were presented at the award ceremony via Zoom to the Permanent Representative of the ECOWAS Commission in Mali, Professor Hamidou BOLY and Dr Ahmat HASSAN MOUSSA, Regional Coordinator of PREDIP at CILSS based in Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso.
